Thane: Residents from Saket and Rabodi have been facing heavy
traffic problems from past four months at Kalwa bridge during peak hours
every morning and evening.
Dayanand Nene, an active resident, said, “Huge traffic problem
has now become a routine which worsens during peak hour. A 10-minute way
takes an hour to reach Cidco, Thane west, due to traffic.”
A letter and verbal complaint has been sent to the traffic
department, yet on Wednesday, residents had to write a letter to deputy
commissioner of police (traffic), Rashmi Karandikar, requesting her to take
an appropriate action soon.
Nene said, “Unlike earlier, now a ride to Thane station takes
around one hour. The opening of Bhiwandi bypass arm of Majiwada flyover has
created problem. Since then all tourist vehicles, trucks and company buses
climb down the arm and while coming straight they take a left turn to Rustomjee
service road, then take a right turn to come to Saket road and head to Vashi.
The turn to Saket leads to traffic as they use the entire width of the road,
thus causing a jam.”
Residents want officials to stop movement of trucks and tourist
vehicles on Saket road (from Balkum aka to Kalwa bridge from 8am to 9pm).
They allege that 8am to 11pm and 6pm to 10pm is the worst time when vehicles
move at a snail’s pace. Though Saket Residency has their own buses to ferry
commuters to and fro Thane station, many are forced to use their private
vehicles to take highway and reach station within 10 minutes.
Residents have suggested changes to the traffic department via
map. Karandikar said, “Till now, I have not gone through the letter. I will
look into the matter and revert in a day or two.”
She added, “Soon, Kalwa bridge
work will start and not much can be done even on temporary
basis, yet I would look into the issue in detail and see what could be done.”
