Heavy Traffic Jams at Kalwa Bridge inconveniencing residents.

April 30, 2015. The Hon. DCP (Traffic), Thane City, Thane. Respected Madam , Sub : Heavy Traffic Jams at Kalwa Bridge inconveniencing residents. Three months ago we  had written to you about the huge traffic snarls at Kalwa Bridge, daily in the morning and evening. The situation still continues unabated and residents from Saket and also of Rabodi are suffering every day. As pointed to you earlier, the problem has been compounded since opening of the Bhiwandi bypass arm of the Majiwade flyover. Since then all Tourist vehicles, trucks and Company buses climb down the arm and coming straight take a left turn on the Rustomjee built illegal service road, then take a right turn to come on Saket Road and head to Vashi from Kalwa Bridge. While doing so they use the entire width of the road - even the extreme right lane and thus causing a jam which stretches up to a kilometre. The lines of trucks parked on either side of the road add to the bad traffic condition. To ...

WHY CHS ACTIVISM IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR

WHY CHS ACTIVISM IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR  The CHS is the most basic unit of local self-governance. Unfortunately, few people have a proper understanding of CHS rules, laws, procedures and administrative/judicial mechanisms that provide our constitutional safeguards. The result is arbitrariness and misuse of power by managing committee members. Just like RTI activists, there is a need for “CHS activists” – people who acquire knowledge and experience of such matters, and help others by training and guiding them.  CHS activists also improve and fine-tune the existing mechanisms to make them more useable by the general public. A CHS activist in our state should have working knowledge of Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act (MCS Act), MCS Rules, Model Bye-laws, guidelines and circulars issued by the office of Registrar of Cooperatives etc, Consumer Protection Act, and Right to Information Act (RTI Act). He should know how to conduct the affairs of a cooperative socie...

CHS: The issue of leaking bathrooms

CHS: The issue of leaking bathrooms In every one out of two housing societies in Mumbai there is a constant quarrel on who attends water leakage in the ceiling of a bathroom. In every such society residence of one flat out of every four flats faces this problem with no solution. Now this issue got recognition as a deficiency in service by housing society’s managements and is no longer allowed to persist. This was a fit case to insert a new Bye Law in the Model Bye Laws from the Commissioner and Registrar of Cooperative Societies based in Pune, Maharashtra. Recognising housing societies as service providers, a consumer forum has ordered one such housing society in Chembur to cough up an almost Rs 1 lakh in compensation to a member for the damage caused to his flat by renovation in the flat above. The forum held the society guilty of deficiency in service because neither did it take any action against the flat owner who caused the damage nor did it make any attempt to recov...
